Washington, D.C. — Today, Representative Jared Huffman (D-CA), Chair of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Oceans, and Wildlife, and Representative Garret Graves (R-LA) introduced the Illegal Fishing and Forced Labor Prevention Act to combat illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing and human rights abuses in the seafood supply chain.
This legislation would link IUU fishing to forced labor in the seafood supply chain and make seafood import monitoring more effective. …
On this week’s episode of Off the Cuff we were joined by two former members of the United States House of Representatives explore the ideal vs. reality of bipartisanship. Charlie Dent, a Republican from Pennsylvania, and Donna Edwards, a Democrat from Maryland, both reflected on how working across the aisle affected their time in Congress.
As two individuals who now work for the media, our guests also spoke on the divisiveness of the news and how media outlets shape what we believe.
I want to thank both of my guests for joining me and for sharing their expert insights into the inner-workings of Congress and honest commentary on political parties in the U.S.
Today, the Democratic members of the House Committee on Natural Resources elected Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) to serve as the Chair of the Water, Oceans, and Wildlife Subcommittee. Rep. Huffman previously held this position in the 116th Congress when the Democrats first won the House majority.
“I’m honored to be elected by my colleagues to continue my role as Chair of the Water, Oceans, and Wildlife Subcommittee,” said Rep. Huffman. “Over the past two years, we have done extraordinary work to improve the health of our oceans and economy of our coastal communities, respond to the threat of climate…
The inauguration of President Biden and Vice-President Harris is a turning point for our country — the first page in a new chapter of unity, integrity, and progress. After four years of chaos and corruption under the Trump administration, it was an honor to attend this historic celebration to usher in the new and more hopeful time for our nation. Despite years of constant threats to our democracy by Donald Trump and his enablers, our democratic republic has prevailed.
The new Biden-Harris administration has inherited staggering challenges — a deadly pandemic, a broken economy, the urgent climate crisis, and the…
It has been a traumatic week for America. The actions taken to incite insurrection at the Capitol last week demand accountability. I’d like to share an update on the steps I am taking to defend our democracy and hold President Trump accountable.

Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) praised a new deal announced today to move forward with removal of four dams on the Klamath River and begin the largest river restoration in United States history.
The negotiated settlement between California, Oregon, the Yurok and Karuk tribes, and dam owner PacifiCorp and Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway acknowledges that there is no time to wait if Klamath River salmon fisheries are to be revived for tribes and coastal communities. Following months of pressure from tribes, conservationists, and members of Congress, dam license holder PacifiCorp’s parent company Berkshire Hathaway heavily engaged in discussions aimed at…
Every Veterans Day, we honor those who have dedicated themselves in service to our nation. To America’s veterans: thank you for your dedication to this country. This Veterans Day, we commit to honoring our veterans by remembering their service, expressing our gratitude for their sacrifices, and delivering on the promises we’ve made to them.
But we must do more than say “thank you for your service.” We owe the men and women who bravely serve our nation in the military, and their families, the highest quality support programs when they come home — including the nearly 40,000 veterans in…
This summer, California has seen more devastating wildfires than we’ve experienced in recorded history, building on a trend of record-breaking years. The science is clear: immediate, bold action is needed to protect our communities from extreme weather and climate-driven megafires.
I’m sending you this message to keep you up to date with the work I have been doing to help Californians prepare for and recover from wildfires, and my efforts to take meaningful action on climate change and land management so we can prevent future disasters.
Last November, I introduced the Wildfire Defense Act with Senator Kamala Harris…
Legislation Holds Warren Buffett’s PacifiCorp Accountable for Impacts of Disastrous Klamath Dams
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4447, the Clean Economy Jobs and Innovation Act, which included the Klamath Hydroelectric Settlement Agreement Tribal Fairness amendment, led by Rep. Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael). The amendment is designed to safeguard Tribal communities against further harm to the Klamath River and its ecosystem and remediate existing problems in the Klamath River basin and downstream communities caused by four aging dams owned by PacifiCorp, a subsidiary of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway. …
